Key Personnel
Steve Porter, Chairman and Managing Director
The man with his name above the door and on the trucks is now the Chairman of the Company and is still very much an interface between the organisation and its customers. With a bias toward commercial interests and with a keen eye for new opportunities, Steve continues to play an active role in the business whilst also overseeing the Group activities at Board level. Demonstrating that his sense of entrepreneurship and adventure has not diminished, Steve was instrumental in developing the export packing case factory that is now a core service,. Latterly, having broken his leg playing roller hockey, Steve has now taken up the more genteel sport of classic motorcycle racing!
Tim Porter, Director, Purchasing, Training, Health & Safety, Administration
After Steve, Tim is the Company’s longest serving employee, and as a Director with responsibilities for Purchasing, Training, Health & Safety and Administration, he is the ‘engine room’ of the organisation. Tim has a major input at all levels and in all departments, helping to continually develop and improve Company systems as well as ensuring that very few problems occur post-delivery with pricing, documentation and invoicing. A motor sport fan of the first degree, Tim regularly visits some of the biggest events on the calendar and his extensive library of motor sport-related books is legendary.
Malcolm Gibson, Company Secretary and Finance Director
As Company Secretary and Finance Director, Malcolm has been with the Company since completing his accountancy training. He has developed a system of real-time reporting and budget forecasting that has enabled the Board to make timely and appropriate decisions based on fact rather than gut instinct. With a broad and detailed understanding of our industry and with his sound financial acumen, Malcolm completes the mix of a strong and focussed Board. As an ex-pat Geordie and keen Newcastle United fan who also loves cricket, there is always plenty to discuss on a Monday morning!
David Groves, Customer Services Manager
As Customer Services Manager, David has the primary responsibility of the Customer Services Department and of controlling full-load movements, specials and out-of-gauge traffic. David is very often the first contact for new enquiries and is a vital interface between the Company and its customers. An accomplished amateur footballer, Dave has helped his local team to many successes over the last few years.
Mark Breakey, Operations Manager
Mark is the Operations Manager for all Steve Porter Transport Group sites and is responsible for all the fleet activity based around the Portsmouth and Isle of Wight depots, as well as an assembly operation within a manufacturing plant in Southampton. When time (and tide) allows, Mark is to be found on his boat bobbing around in the Solent.
Lee Silk, Production Manager
Lee is the hands-on Production Manager of Technical Packing Services – the case-making and packing division of the organisation. He is able to design, quote and manufacture to individual customer requirements as well as organise the day-to-day management of the business unit. Lee is a keen fisherman and spends a lot of thinking and ‘chill out’ time on his own boat off the coast of the Island.
